The Project Management Professional (PMP) credential is the most important industry-recognized certification for project managers. Globally recognized and demanded, the PMP demonstrates that you have the experience, education and competency to lead and direct projects. Employers benefit from standardized processes, while project managers can use the PMP to benchmark their skills and knowledge against international standards.

To be eligible for the PMP, you need to have either a four-year degree or a secondary diploma with at least 5 years of experience leading and directing projects, including 7,500 hours spent in project leadership roles and 35 hours of project management education.

If you do not have a four-year degree or higher diploma, you can still qualify by completing an accredited project management education program or by having your experience verified through an independent assessment process.

Once you meet the eligibility requirements, you can register for the PMP exam online. The exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions covering all aspects of project management. You will have four hours to complete the exam, and you must answer at least 106 questions correctly to pass.

Once you pass the exam, you will receive your PMP certificate. The certificate is valid for three years, and you must earn 60 professional development units (PDUs) during that time to maintain your certification.
